Our in-person volunteer opportunities are currently on hold, but you can support the youth living at Attention Homes by donating a meal, donating needed items, or giving a monetary gift
We have, along with the rest of the world, been carefully evaluating the ever-changing COVID-19 situation and have remained in rapid response mode to make adjustments to our organization. This unexpected pandemic has affected every aspect of our program participants’ lives, and we are committed to keeping them safe and healthy.
Here are some ways we have responded:
Reconfigured the way we operate our Street Outreach Program to prevent unnecessary contact with individuals, and follow CDC guidelines.
Prepared isolation spaces in each of our programs.
Continue to remain in communication with schools to provide support while young people are still at home to prevent displacement, abuse, and/or neglect.
Supporting youth with distance learning.
Started a 24/7 hotline for individuals to navigate available resources during this crisis.
Created a financial modeling plan to responsibly spend our dollars and ensure the longevity of Attention Homes.
Enacted hazard pay for our program staff who are on the front lines caring for our program participants during this time.
Implemented contact tracing if any staff or program participants test positive.
Hosted our 2 annual fundraising events virtually.
Closed our administrative office and required all staff that can work from home to work from home.
Now requiring all donation drop-offs be scheduled ahead of time to minimize the amount of visitors.
Continue to practice the recommended health and safety protocols in programs.

It’s been an intense year with COVID-19, police brutality, polarized politics, protests, and reflecting and acting on ways to create an anti-racist country within our own community and organization. And at the same time, there are success stories. These stories help light the way through dark times, and we must remember to focus on these…

Markus was asked to leave his home in Salt Lake City at age 17 when his family discovered he was gay through a social media post. In late 2010, when Attention Homes’ youth shelter opened, David was one of our first residents. He came to our shelter on New Years Eve, after running away to avoid being put into foster care. He stayed with us for two months until he turned 18. During his time with us we successfully enrolled him…
Much like any family with school-age kids, as soon as August arrives, our focus turns to Back to School. This is an exciting time for students as they head back to class, eager to share fun summer stories and see friends they haven’t seen in a while. Many youth also experience anxiety at the thought…
