On November 15, 2012 Attention Homes joined more than 40 community and business leaders to raise awareness of and build support for youth who are homeless. Sleep Out participants spent the night sleeping outside on the lawn between Attention Homes’ administrative office and the First United Methodist Church of Boulder, near 15th & Spruce in downtown Boulder.
By taking part in this event, participants glimpsed what life is like as a homeless youth by exposing themselves to weather elements and uncertainties that come from living on the streets. Unlike Attention Homes’ youth clients, however, event participants had the benefit of knowing the next morning they can return to safe and warm homes, their jobs and their families.
Participants were asked to each pledge to raise $1,000 from friends, family and colleagues through their own online fundraising page to support Attention Homes’ homeless and runaway youth services. The Sleep Out for Homeless Youth event has raised more than $45,000 for Attention Homes’ programming.
