Intake Procedures

Day Drop-In Center Criteria and Admission Procedures:

  1. Upon arriving at the drop-in center a youth must sign in on the attendance form, using either street name or real name.
  2. Youth may choose to remain anonymous, but must sign in with a name or moniker upon arriving at the drop-in center.
  3. Youth (male and female) must be 12—24 years of age. Youth outside of this age range will not be denied services, but will be referred to more age-appropriate services in the future.
  4. By signing in, youth agree to abide by all rules of Attention Homes.
  5. Youth who fail to abide by all rules and expectations risk loss of future drop-in center privileges.
  6. Youth must agree to lock all belongings in a locker provided by Attention Homes.
  7. Youth must agree to a no-touch, clothed body search.
  8. Youth may sign up for showers, laundry and internet and other services through RHY staff.
  9. Youth must agree to remain in staff or volunteers’ line of sight and in designated drop-in center areas.
  10. Drugs, alcohol, tobacco and weapons are not allowed in the home.

Overnight Emergency Shelter Criteria and Admission Procedures:

  1. Upon arriving at the Overnight Emergency Shelter, youth must agree to lock all belongings in a locker.
  2. Youth must agree to a no-touch, clothed body search.
  3. Youth must complete an intake packet providing birth name, date of birth, parent name and contact information and other necessary identifying information.
  4. Youth may choose a nightly or extended stay designation.  Attention Homes, by Colorado state regulations, is required to notify parents if a youth resides in a shelter 24 hours or more.
  5. Shelter staff will provide an orientation to each youth who enters the shelter.
  6. Youth must abide by all rules and expectations as defined by the handbook and staff.

Youth must abide by all rules and expectations as set forth in The Source Policy Manual and ABC’s of staying at The Source and directions of shelter staff.

Populations Attention Homes will consider for intake.

  1. Youth 12 years of age up to their 18th birthday.
  2. Youth who are transient and/or looking for a single night off the streets.
  3. Youth looking for help to transition off the streets and are in need of assistance to do so.
  4. Youth with no family or any other place to go.
  5. Youth who have been kicked out of their homes by guardians, or who have run away from an abusive, neglectful or otherwise unhealthy living situation.
  6. Youth in need of temporary shelter from escalating family conflict.

Populations Attention Homes will consider on a case-by-case basis.

  1. Youth who are intoxicated or otherwise under the influence of drugs or alcohol, youth who may be a threat to themselves or others and youth who may need to be taken to the ARC (Addiction Recovery Center) to detox safely.
  2. Youth with serious mental illness or developmental delay.  Youth with these and other special needs will be provided outside services for the best possible outcomes and service.
